Job Title: Senior Project Engineer
Location: Hartford, CT
Description: The Senior Project Engineer supports the Project Manager by applying engineering principles to plan, coordinate, and administer construction project engineering support, project controls, and contract compliance from preconstruction through project closeout. This role ensures project documentation, technical submittals, procurement tracking, and reporting are completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with contract requirements, plans and specifications, and applicable regulations.
Responsibilities include:
- Review construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract requirements to support constructability coordination and ensure deliverables align with design intent, applicable codes/standards, and engineering requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of project records, compliance documentation, and client information.
- Maintain working relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and trade contractors.
- Participate in client and stakeholder meetings for upcoming projects as directed by senior management.
- Preconstruction phase duties include preparing bidder lists, developing bid packages, conducting scope reviews, preparing/issuing bid documents to subcontractors, evaluating trade bids, supporting value engineering efforts, and developing Owner/GMP contract amendments.
- Construction phase duties include coordination with project team (owner, design team, subcontractors, vendors); project administration and risk management support; tracking and documenting scope issues; supporting budget and cost documentation; assisting with change management tracking; attending project meetings and recording project documentation; maintaining the project filing system; and preparing Client Monthly Reports.
- Coordinate the submittal and procurement process, including maintaining a submittal registry and procurement log; tracking lead times; reviewing and tracking technical submittals for compliance with project requirements, plans, specifications; coordinating approved submittals with subcontractors; tracking material deliveries; and reporting open items and impacts.
- Coordinate Request for Information (RFI) process, including distributing, processing, tracking RFIs; coordinating technical responses with design professionals and project team members; assessing impacts to procurement and costs; and providing an open RFI log for monthly report.
- Coordinate document control and drawing markup including distribution, tracking, and updating of drawings, RFIs, ASIs, PRs, bulletins, SKs, and other project documents and logs using Procore.
- Coordinate materials testing, special inspections, and third-party inspection activities with the lead superintendent, including tracking reports, distributing results to relevant parties, and monitoring open items through completion.
- Support quality control and closeout readiness by tracking technical nonconformance items, coordinating corrective actions, and maintaining records of testing, inspections, and deficiency resolution.
- Coordinate Certified Payrolls, MEURs, and workforce compliance per prevailing wage and participation requirements by monitoring daily manpower tracking; reconciling Procore reporting with certified payroll submissions; maintaining logs; issuing deficiency notices to trades; coordinating certified payroll and monthly utilization reporting; reviewing consultant reports; and providing payroll/workforce logs to the Project Manager for inclusion in the monthly report.
- Coordinate project closeout by maintaining punch list/rolling completion items; assembling closeout documents such as O&Ms, warranties, as-builts, and product literature; coordinating attic stock; and scheduling Owner training.
Travel: Position requires daily local travel from the Hartford, Connecticut office to various project sites within the city of Hartford, Connecticut.
Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field. Completion of graduate-level coursework in construction estimating/scheduling, construction project management, construction law/contracts/claims, construction QA/QC, sustainable construction materials/methods, and infrastructure protection/risk management.
